The Mayan Ruins are temples in Mexico. I just visited and they are beautiful. The Mayans believed in 3 main gods. One was named Kukulkan who was a mix of a bird and a snake. He was the god of many things, life, nature, farming, and more. He could live in the heavens and the underworld. People prayed every morning for the sun to come up. Then there was Balam who was the god of the night sky. He lived in the underworld and helped the Mayans make their calenders. He was a jaguar and his spots represented the stars. Last, there was Chuck who was the god of water. He lived under the cenotes and was in the underworld. He was the god of jade and people gave him jade offerings. If the Mayans were running low on something that the gods could give them they sacrificed people and blood which showed life. The Mayans played a game with a heavy, but bouncy, ball and they could only use their hips, elbows, and knees. The captain of the winnings team's head would be cut off. It was an honor because would go to heaven and come back down to earth and help people. The Mayans were a beautiful civilization and they honored nature.
