David Attenborough is such an influencer to me. When David was a boy in 1937 the population of the world was 2.3 billion, the carbon in atmosphere was 280 parts per million, and the remaining wilderness was 66%. He would go to an abandoned Cory and look for fossils.
In September 1954 David started his carer. By then the population was 2.7 billion, the amount of carbon in the atmosphere was 310 parts per million, and the remaining wilderness 64%. Wherever he went there was wilderness. But the pace of change was speeding up. At that time no one knew that was a problem.
In 1960 the population was 3.0 billion, the amount carbon in the atmosphere was 315 parts per million, and the remaining wilderness was 62%. His first visit to Africa was in September 1960. It was amazing how in a Serengeti there could 1,000 wildebeests and a quarter of a million Zebra. The next day they could be gone. It seemed impossible for us to harm it. A few years later people realized that change was hurting us.
In May, 1971 he visited a jungle and met a tribe who lived off of the land. it was amazing to see the human kind but living in a different way. 7 years later the population was 4.3 billion, the amount of carbon in the atmosphere was 335 parts per million and the remaining wilderness was 55%. In one of his first documentary's he traveled across the globe. He met a bunch of Gorilla's and some sat on him. At that time they discovered Whale sounds. Why is this important? Well they were trying to save the whales who were being shot and were being caught. At the same time he started another documentary called Life On Earth. David had went to Bornia and now it has reduced by nearly half. We have cut down 3 trillion trees. Part 2 is next
